Several rabbis and Israeli religious leaders have commented that the Jewish Messiah is either already present or will be soon. Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, considered one of the leading rabbis of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Israel, spoke openly about the need to inform the public of the imminent arrival of the Messiah prior to his death in 2022.1 The same article notes that several rabbis predicted that Benjamin Netanyahu would be the State of Israel’s last prime minister prior to the Messianic Age approximately a decade ago. These rabbis reportedly included Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri (referred to as “one of modern Israel’s most revered sages”) and Rabbi Menachem Schneerson. Purportedly, many if not most ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel continue to believe this to be true. There have also been seemingly “false alarms” with these predictions based on the more mystical traditions of Judaism (e.g., Kaballah).
